NU Boyana Film Script Competition announced in the summer of 2007 has aroused unusual interest among Bulgarian authors. By the deadline (Feb 29, 2008) for submission of scripts there were submitted 56 original scripts by 55 authors, some of them created in co-authorship.
At the first stage of the Competition a judging panel consisting of Stanislav Semerdzhiev (Chair), film script writer, Chair of the Bulgarian Association of Film, Television and Radio Script Writers, and member of the Board of the European Screenwriters’ Federation, Alek Popov, writer and script writer, Boyko Lambovski, poet and publicist, Gergana Dakovska, film dramaturge and Bulgaria’s representative at Eurimages Fund with the Council of Europe, and Dimitar Dereliev, film dramaturge and NU Boyana Film’s representative, have assessed all scripts submitted and participating in the Competition. They have shortlisted five scripts which are going to compete in the final stage of the Competition.
The titles of the shortlisted scripts in the Competition are as follows (in alphabetical order): Have No Fear by Anna Petrova, So Long Warby Konstantin Kostov, Men of Evil by Marin Damyanov and Damyan Damyanov, Stephi by Nikolay Iliev, and The Dove by Plamen Kyorlenski and Sevina Altunova.
The shortlisted scripts shall be further evaluated by an international judging panel consisting of John Bernstein (chair, film script writer, and director of the Screenwriting Program, Boston, USA), Cath Moore (film script writer, Australia), Roger Gregory (film dramaturge, UK), Stanislav Semerdzhiev (film script writer, Bulgaria), and Sakari Kirjavainen (film director and script writer, Finland).
The judging panel shall assess the shortlisted scripts and choose the winner to be awarded the best original script award in the name of Marko Stoychev and granted a cash prize (EUR 5 000 for the first prize and EUR 3 000 for the second prize) by Bratya Mormarevi Foundation.
In accordance with the Competition Rules the international judging panel shall announce its decisions on June 6th, 2008.
